Legend has it that the mother of this stunning work of architecture was not Rome, but laziness. It is said that a girl who worked as a water carrier made a pact with the devil if he would give his soul before the cock crowed the water reached only to his house. However, she soon repented of this trade and began to pray to avoid omen. Through a terrible storm, the devil failed to finish his work by placing a single stone, thereby losing the soul of the girl. As well as Segovia was received from the hands of the devil himself, this remarkable monument, which marks the skyline.
You can not however forget other great monuments of Segovia: the Cathedral, Late Gothic style, with its high tower and pinnacles, a meeting point for tens of cigüeñas.Otro point of great interest is the castle, said to have been inhabited since Celtic times. He almost definitely be destroyed by fire in 1862, but the King Alfonso XII ordered its reconstruction. As a result we can now enjoy its beautiful silhouette and the wonderful views that are enjoyed from the top of his tower, that if, after climbing a steep spiral staircases … Strolling through Segovia is a real treat for the eyes : ancient palaces, churches, city walls and numerous examples of Mudejar art.
But it is also a pleasure for the palate: no one can lose its tapas bars (there are many around the Plaza Mayor), where you can try some of the delights of traditional Castilian cuisine, along with products born of cultural mixing since time immemorial that characterizes this city, with influences from Christian, Jewish and Arab. The dish is undoubtedly the king pig, which became especially famous for one of their most illustrious, Candide, with its restaurant Azoguejo Square, next to the aqueduct.
